Performance Level of Grade 10 Students of San Narciso Quezon in Contemporary Music Under Distance Learning

Abstract

This research intended to find out the performance level of grade 10 students of San Narciso Quezon in contemporary music under distance learning. Specifically, this study sought to answer the following research questions: the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of; age, sex, length of time studying per week, and length of time listening to music per week, factors affecting students' level of performance in contemporary music under distance learning, difficulties faced by the students learning contemporary music under distance learning, and the level of performance of students in contemporary music under distance learning. This quantitative research involved seventy-seven students who participated and answered the survey questionnaires encoded to the google form as an instrument used in collecting data on two schools in San Narciso Quezon. The researcher used purposive sampling and adopted a descriptive design in making data gathering easier. It is found in the study that the majority of the respondents are females aged from 15 to 16 years old. In terms of time spent studying per week, the respondents picked 31 – 40 hours. Lastly, in terms of the length of time listening to music per week, most of the respondents are approximately 41 hours and above. In the Factors Affecting Student's Level of Performance in Contemporary Music under Distance Learning, most of the respondents tried their best to study before the time for a test and not leave things for the last minute as they found that it only creates more anxiety and stress. In the Difficulties Faced by the Students Learning Contemporary Music under Distance Learning, the majority of the respondents are interested in learning new material and complained a little about seeing the same topics covered more than once in their study plan. However, the performance level of the respondents is high. The researcher looks for more male students to participate in this kind of topic and spend more time studying at their home since they are under distance learning. Students should maintain and maximize the effectiveness of their efforts through time management. Students should acknowledge that they were unaware of the prerequisite topic, but do not ignore it. Students should participate or partake in strengthening and preserving the significance of contemporary music because it must be studied and documented regularly. The researcher made a handbook on Contemporary Philippine Music, this educational tool promotes guided and independent study by students with information, and guidelines in Contemporary Philippine Music at their own pace and on their own time.
