Teamwork Capabilities of Marine Students during Basic Training in the Now Normal
Area of Research
Abstract
Most commonly teamwork is understood as the collaborative and
interactive relationship among individuals who are members of the team but in
some aspects, it is an authority and command. It is all about people's
relationships and touching the lives of every people you met. Here in maritime
studies, we perceived teamwork as capabilities they possess during their basic
training. This study entitled teamwork capabilities of marine students during basic
training has four main objectives. In the first part, the study investigated the
student respondents in terms of sex, age, and program. The second objective was to know the impact of teamwork on marine students during their basic
training. This part has three sub-problems specifically, team knowledge
capabilities, team attitude capabilities, and team skills capabilities. The last part
of this research paper, assessed the significant difference between the impact of
teamwork on marine students during basic training when they are grouped
according to profile. The respondents of the study were the selected second-year
and third-year students who had undergone basic training and were currently
enrolled in higher education institutions in Lucena, City. They are composed of
101 marine students. This study used quantitative approaches in conducting the
research. Specifically, it will utilize the descriptive design where the questionnaire
is the main data-gathering tool. Here the researchers used Google form in
gathering the data needed for the study. Lastly, this research hypothesized that
there is a significant difference between the types of leadership styles of marine
students during their basic training when they are grouped according to profile.
The results of the research show that a majority of the respondents were
between the age of 19 to 21 years old with a frequency of 67 (66.34%). Also, a
majority of the respondents were males with a frequency of 96 (95.05%). And, all
of the respondents were in the BSMT program with a 100% response rate. There
is an excellent impact on the teamwork capabilities of marine students during
basic training. The respondents preferred two impacts of teamwork capabilities of marine students during basic training (1) Impact on Knowledge with a mean of
4.66 and (2) Impact on Skills with a mean of 4.64. On Impact on Knowledge, the
highest indicator showed that "as a marine student I got sufficient effort to get the
opinions and ideas of other members of the team," "as a marine student working
in the team inspires one to do their best," and "as a marine student when the role
within the team changes it should be communicated effectively through the
leader" with the same means of 4.68. And, on Impact on Skills, The highest
response was from the statement stating that "as a marine student, the
respondents communicate with another team effectively" with a mean of 4.72.
Lastly, the impact of teamwork on marine students during basic training when
they are grouped according to profile is not statistically significant
