Completed2023

Abstract

Basic safety training is one of the cornerstones in the maritime program and it is for compliance to ensure that safety measures are a priority of seafarers working on a ship. These may include the personal and operational safety of a seafarer despite the demand challenges of the maritime works standard and international requirements. Future seafarers undergo an apprenticeship program before they can become full-fledged mariners in today's shipping and seaman job industry. This study aimed to determine the situational safety measures in shipboard apprenticeship programs. Specifically, it sought to identify the preparatory activities that are related to the apprenticeship program before and during the shipboard training. This research also aims to discuss the requirements and compliance with the apprenticeship program as well as the experiences of the student cadets in shipboard training. Seemingly, this study determined the experiences being encountered by the student cadet on shipboard training and how the situations will come up with actions to improve or enhance safety measures on the shipboard programs. Descriptive type or quantitative research was employed in the study and the result determined the situational experiences of the student cadets instead of their compliance on the job training of the shipboard training. Interactive and a recommendation was proposed to equip the student cadets in the scenario and different situational aspects of shipboard training. This study also recommends that student cadets must be aware and knowledgeable of the safety measures on shipboard so that they can be conversant with the compliance of the on-the-job training standards and requirements.
