Life after Seafaring: Analyzing Filipino Seafarers Investment Plans
Abstract
Filipino seafarers make up one of the largest single nationality groups on board in the
racially diverse cruise industry and are regarded as having one of the higher-paying types of jobs.
However, there are many unanticipated events associated with these Filipino seafarers didn't
anticipate, which cause an unexpected drop in their income or, worse, a stop in their
employment. The main purpose of this research was to analyze how Filipino seafarers choose
their investment plan after seafaring in terms of salary, family needs, and wants, health and work
risks and kind of investment. The study also intended to learn about the respondents' age, gender,
employment history, and investment plan preferences. In addition, this study also aimed to
produce activities such as seminars to spread and share the knowledge gathered in this study.
Survey questionnaires were distributed to respondents via Google form based on the review of related literature and studies. Weighted means, percentages, verbal interpretations, and a 4-point
Likert scale was used to determine how Filipino seafarer choose their investment plan. In this
study, a random sample technique is employed. Recommendations are specific to how Filipino
seafarers perceive choosing their investing strategy. Having a lecture for maritime students to
help them understand how and why Filipino seafarers choose their investment Plan is the major
final output of the study.
