Health and Safety Practices of Maritime Students in Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation on Hyflex Learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The educational system in the Philippines is shifting toward a "hyflex" or hybrid and flexible structure where teachers and students do not always need to be present in the same physical space for learning. The hybrid flexible, or HyFlex, course format is an instructional approach that combines face-to-face (F2F) and online learning. This study aimed to identify andensure the health and safety practices of maritime students of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation on hyflex learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to determinethe demographic profile of the respondents such as age, sex, and course as well as the challenges, benefits, opportunities, and practices of maritime students of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation on hyflex learning. Additionally, this study aimed to develop activitieslike seminars and social media awareness to disseminate and share the knowledge discovered via this research. Google form survey questionnaires were handed out to the students to gather fast and real-time responses. Weighted means, percentages, verbal interpretations, and a 4-point Likert scale were used to determine what third-year students in themaritime field engage in flexible learning. The researchers have been able to find out the practices for ensuring the health and safety of the Maritime students during hyflex learning that was always implemented, the challenges the Maritime students sometimes encountered when ensuring the health and safety protocols during hyflex online and on-ground, as well as the opportunities and benefits that was always given for the respondents on having health and safety practices maybe not just in hyflex learning but in everyday lives. Then, it is therefore recommended that there should be a need to sustain the strict health and safety of the Maritime students during hyflex learning and different learning set-ups, and some suggestions for further studies regarding the effects of opportunities and benefits of the hy-flex learning.
