Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of Awareness and Preparedness of Maritime Students on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management at MSEUF – College of Maritime Education. It specifically sought to develop administrative strategies to enhance the awareness, practices, and preparedness of College of Maritime Education students on disaster risk reduction. This study utilized a quantitative type of research. Using the descriptive survey method and purposive sampling, 130 2nd year maritime students were selected from the locale. Questionnaires were administered online and personally to gather data for the study. Weighted Mean was used to determine the level of awareness and preparedness that the respondents answered. The survey of 130 Maritime students revealed that they exhibit a strong awareness and preparedness concerning disaster risk, mitigation, and response capacity. The study shows that the respondents are knowledgeable about the potential dangers and risks associated with disasters and have taken proactive measures to reduce these risks. These results align with research that emphasizes the significance of risk communication and education in disaster preparedness. Moreover, the respondents' high level of preparedness in terms of safety measures and appropriate disaster response is essential for increasing community resilience and promoting self-sufficiency during disasters. Overall, the findings suggest that Maritime students take disaster risk seriously and are prepared to act when necessary, although disaster preparedness requires ongoing effort and improvement.
