Welcome Aboard: Factors Affecting Students’ Interest Towards Maritime Studies in New Normal

Abstract
This quantitative-descriptive type of research method collected data to answer
the questions, specifically, the perception of students towards Maritime Studies, the
influence of family-related, social-related, and self-interest, the struggles and ways to
overcome struggles in pursuing the chosen career. This research aimed to examine the
different factors affecting the interest of students in choosing Maritime Studies as their
career. Ascertaining the result of the study, the researchers utilized a Purposive
sampling method in choosing one hundred (100) first-year marine students officially
enrolled in Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation. After gathering the data, the
researchers checked the completeness of the information given by the respondents. The
result revealed that students’ interest in Maritime Studies appears from their interest.
This indicates that students' interests can lead to personal satisfaction and professional
success. In addition, students' interests are aligned with their strengths in pursuing
Maritime Studies.
