Ay Weh? Tru Ba?”: A 3D Animated Short Film of Filipino Superstitious Beliefs on Marriage, Fortune, Life, and Death

Completed2023

Abstract

Superstitions have been a longstanding tradition in Filipino culture, but their importance has been declining, particularly among the younger generation. Consequently, an animated short film was created to inform, educate, and entertain people about superstitions as component of Filipino culture. It used creative visuals to tell stories, communicate emotions, and provide real-life scenarios, exploring the influence of superstitious beliefs on topics such as marriage, fortune, life, and death in Quezon Province. The collected data, which included research and interviews, had an impact on the concept, theme, music, and three-dimensional animation style of the film. The process involved the stages of animation such as pre-production, production, and post-production, including writing scripts and storyboards; creating original character design and set-design assets; importing and modifying 3D background assets; composing and recording original soundtracks; importing background music and sound effects; testing the short-animated film for audio and animation, synchronization, and transition; as well as gathering audience feedback and evaluation and finally the deployment of the animated short film in YouTube and Facebook page titled “Ay Weh? Tru Ba?” Furthermore, the effectiveness of the animated short film was demonstrated through the average Likert scale rating of 4.66 obtained from the evaluation of the target audience.
