Factor Affecting the Maritime Student’s Learning Attitudes in the Asy

Completed2021

Abstract

Asynchronous environments make material such as audio/video lectures, handouts, articles, and PowerPoint presentations readily available to students. This material is available at any time and from any location via a Learning Management System (LMS) or other similar channels. An LMS is a collection of tools that houses course content and provides a framework for communication between students and teachers. Asynchronous learning is a self-paced system in which students must be self-disciplined to stay active and interactive. While discussions on forums and blogs can keep them engaged, deviating from the topic can also be distracting. This student-centered learning approach has the potential to increase student engagement while also improving academic outcomes. This determined the factors that affect the attitude of all maritime students in terms of sex, year level, and program enrolled in, also their difficulties, such as factors that affect the learning attitude of maritime students during asynchronous classes, Challenges of maritime students in dealing asynchronous learning and strategies used in overcoming the challenges. Qualitative research provides an understanding of a situation or phenomenon that tells the the story rather than determining cause and effect. Techniques for conducting qualitative research include observations, interviews, and document analysis. The researchers performed their research on 2 students from 1st year, the 2nd year, and 3rd year of Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering in Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation's College of Maritime Education. In terms of year level, 2nd and 3rd year are the most common, and based on the course, the majority of the respondent available is from BSMT. The dominant response from the participant regarding what they think are the advantages. Self-learning, unlimited time, and can read what they've already learned and spend time with their families. The most common response has slow internet connection that makes it difficult to download or search. These distracted and gave lots of homework and little time. Positive mindset, self-discipline, time management, and self-motivation are all things that were recommended in this research. The participants most common response is about their future, working hard, setting a life goal, managing their time wisely, and remaining positive this is the most common answer to this question.
