Tourists’ COVID-19 Risk Perception and their Travel Intentions to Beach Resorts in Quezon Province

Completed2022

Abstract

The study aims to assess the perception of the tourists towards risks in traveling to beach resorts in Quezon Province during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it affects their travel intentions. The study intends to conduct quantitative research utilizing a descriptive technique to demonstrate the tourists' perspectives. The sampling procedure used in the study is purposive sampling. The researchers conducted a self-made questionnaire based on five classifications in the study. The respondents of this study are the tourists. The criteria for the respondents should be at the age of 18-65 years old, living in Lucena City, and are beach goers. The study was only limited to some areas of Quezon due to the massive compass of the province. The population where the researcher conducted their study is within Lucena City, the capital of Quezon. The researchers considered that the total number of participants is 150. Fifty participants each came from three clusters of barangays in the city which are: the urban, sub-urban, and coastal barangays of Lucena City. The tourists see that beach resorts are a nice spot to visit in the future after the pandemic because the beautiful scenery of beaches will help relax their minds and provide a wonderful escape and opportunity to participate in beachside activities. There is no significant difference in respondents’ perceptions of spending leisure time in a beach resort for their future travel plan after the pandemic based on their age, gender, civil status, or monthly family income. Beach resorts can also provide reliable information and safety measures on the internet for tourists that plan on visiting them. For the tourists, regardless of their educational attainment, it should be critical to spend their leisure time at beach resorts. For future researchers, they may conduct a study on the perception of tourists on other important local, national, and international issues and events and how it affects their travel intention. They may study how risk management plans at other travel destinations may affect the tourists’ perception. The output of the study is the proposed risk management plan for beach resorts. This plan is for the beach resort owners to reevaluate and reassess the risks affecting the travel of tourists. This will also provide beach resort owners to enhance their plans and objectives during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
