A Proposed Mangrove Aquasilviculture Research Center with Recreational Facilities

Completed2020

Abstract

The location of the study is Barangay Barra which faces the Tayabas Bay. The site is near to a coastal area where mangrove can rehabilitate. Practically, Lucena City is listed as one of being in a fault line of natural disasters which include earthquakes and tidal hazards in Quezon Province. In the past few years and recently in Tayabas Bay, there is a blast fishing that threatens fish sanctuaries. For the protection of coastal areas to stand the occurrence of natural disasters, an environmental solution or construction of a facility that can lessen the burden of natural disasters would be designed in the vicinity. This proving ground of mangrove would create a system where it could protect and enhance the environment with human awareness providing educational knowledge about this matter with green spaces and coastal protection. Mangrove is an important plant species that can protect and benefit people and our environment. Different places here in the Philippines already took actions regarding the preservations of mangroves especially in coastal areas. Quezon Province also implemented while the environmental enthusiasts enact a law to protect the mangrove forests. The proposed structure would be a typhoon resilient building to maintain its sustainability whenever there is a typhoon. The project postulated an approach that aided in securing communities on the coastal fringe, creating natural beauty to coastal zones and developing habitats. The proposed structure would be low in cost and is of great financial advantage in comparison with the costs for damages it may prevent. The building would also provide Lab space, briefing center, visual gallery, mangrove rainforest arboretum, resto coastal view, orientation area, mangrove nursery, mud crab pen, dock, rope course, nipa fruticans, kayak trails, and an aquasilviculture planning layouts to promote the protection of mangrove in the area. These facilities would expand people’s knowledge at the same time enjoying the coastal area with research and observation decks.
