Prototype Design of Electronic Flood Warning System via VHF Radio

Completed2016

Abstract

One of the world?s most severe natural disasters is flood. A flood has killed thousands of people from all over the world. This is due to the fact that they are not well-informed when a flood is about to occur. Therefore, this study was formulated to raise the awareness of citizens living near river banks how high or how fast the flood is coming. This can decrease, or rather, eliminate the number of deaths from unexpected flood. Research and development was implemented in the study in order to gather designs from previous studies and innovate them for a better and more practicable use of today. The project prototype is made by creating the block diagram and the system flowchart that guides the researchers to formulate and design the circuit diagram. The design is consist of flow rate sensor, water level sensor, Amega328P for switching, DFPlayer for sound processing, radio and antenna for transmission powered by 5volts and 12volts DC power supply. It processes the measuring of water level and the flow rate of the running water. During the testing and evaluation, the system proved that it is accurate by sending a voice message through VHF radio for every 6seconds of intervals. The respondents, who are the students and random citizens, agreed that the system is reliable and efficient to use during calamities.
