A PROPOSED KISLAP GINTONG YAMAN: REHABILITATION OF QUEZON PROVINCIAL LIBRARY

Completed2020

Abstract

Quezon Provincial Library also known as “Gintong Yaman” is one of the oldest structures in Quezon Province. It was established in the year 1924 (National Library of the Philippines, n.d.). Before it become a library, it was said to be a provincial hospital year back then. But in the year 1942, the hospital was ordered closed in the period of the occupation of the Japanese imperial forces due to lack of funds (Quezon.gov, 2016). This building was once colonialized by the Japanese. The provincial hospital/ library was handled by Hermana Fausta who raised funds to this building because she noticed that Lucena is lacking in clinic and hospital facilities; together with her connections and members they started to build the said building. Due to its long run, this building became silent and out of trend. As the years passed by, the development of the building slowly decreases because of the rapid evolution of technologies and rapid growth of the population in Quezon that the building cannot sustain the needs and demands of the people. The researcher came up to this proposed project to give priority and attention to the development of the Gintong Yaman. This is to redesign the Provicial Library that focused on preserving the historical features that would lead to a functional and operative library in the province of Quezon. This project would provide a wellassociated facilities needed for the library which can accommodate students and researchers. This also applied a biophilic design to support in sustaining the building. This project would provide an effective new learning environment that would serve as a room for knowledge. Kislap Gintong Yaman project would provide solution for the current problem of the library and this would be accomplished through proper analysis and research. Also, this study would be beneficial to researchers and students for educational purposes that would be very helpful to Lucena City.
