Completed2020

Abstract

Sustainable living through proper housing or shelters of good quality constitutes healthy communities which by far are one the most important daily commodities. BALAI- UMAHAN: A Proposed Socialized Housing Development is located at Barangay Poblacion, San Francisco, Quezon. This project is centered towards the design of a habitable shelter, to address the shelter needs of the neighborhood and to ensure the security of the residents in the community of San Francisco in Quezon Province in times of natural disasters and disease outbreaks. The household of the Municipality of San Francisco has a total annual growth of 14,160 units. This proposed project sought to resolve the total backlog that been projected to reach to close total of 1,200 units. Contending with this backlog will approximately require additional lands with a total of nine (9) hectares to accommodate detached housing units. This capacity suggests a demand for higher density housing strategy. The project provides a solution for the low-income family to build houses that are affordable, innovative and resilient. The project provides adequate and safe housing with basic services, community facilities and access to social and economic opportunities to low-income families, (NHA). The project provides the basis and objective of the minimum design standards that encourage the use of duly accredited indigenous materials and technology in the form of innovative design and systems, modular and components among others which the parameters used in formulating these design standards are the protection and safety of life, limb, property and general public welfare, basic needs of human settlements and enumerated in descending order. The project also considers the affordability levels of target market and the location (Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, BP 220, Nov. 2008). This proposal is an exemplification of a sustainable community with the aim to create and Design Housing Building as being Adequate, Livable, Affordable and Inclusive (BALAI). This proposed project will benefit to the residents of the Municipality of San Francisco, in Quezon Province more particularly the clustered barangay residents who often work on low-paying, unstable jobs, being individuals who are part of the vulnerable household. This project will enable them to acquire affordable housing.
