Completed2020

Abstract

Historically, the Philippines had faced a lot of various calamities and disasters which had caused big destruction to property in every city and countless lives of Filipino families had suffered from great loss. As the Philippines is situated at the Pacific Ring of Fire and Pacific typhoon belt, it has been ranked as third in the World Risk Report (Esquire Philippines, 2018; Paunan, 2019). During times of disasters, like the other municipalities, the city of Lucena was being affected too but not usually being flooded only if it is situated in low-land and river areas. There is no official evacuation center in the city and the available place for people to evacuate is the schools or other multi-purposes center. According to the Republic Act 10121 “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010” under section 4, functions no. 24, that in every provincial, city, municipal or barangay should establish a disaster risk reduction and management operations center (NDRRMC, 2010). The purpose of this study is to design a disaster-resilient multi-purpose evacuation center in the City of Lucena. The use of current design trends is applied; and based on the collected data which is related to the study, it also served as a pattern to create better design solutions. It will be an advantage to the city, as it will be able to strengthen the needs in emergencies and the safety of people in terms of risks. The study will not only benefit the city but it can also be promoted to its nearby municipalities.
