EXODUS OF NURSES: NURSE MIGRATION AND ITS IMPLICATIONS

Abstract
One of the largest sectors of the healthcare labor force is nurses, and its migration had an
impact on both origin and country's designation. Migration has also impacted struggles in the
retention and recruitment of health professionals. It has been revealed that scarcity increase
workload and, subsequently, burnout among the remaining health workers in the country.
(Murphy et al., 2016). The primary aim of this study was to identify the effects of nurse
migration and its implications. Mixed method research specifically explanatory approach
wherein both qualitative and quantitative approaches were utilized. The results of the qualitative
part were used for the quantitative study where a self-made questionnaire was used to gather the
needed data in the study. One hundred (100) respondents composed of staff nurses, nurse
administrators, and nurse immigrants were part of the quantitative study. All the data that were
collected and treated with confidentiality. Statistical tools were utilized to analyze and interpret
the data. Results show the challenges of the nurses based on their day-to-day experience working
in the industry. Although the workplace offered a benefit and opportunities, this study found out
that there are a lot of nurses migrating to other countries. This paper also presents the factors and
effects of migration.
