Police Involvement in the Cybercrime Investigation

Abstract
The Philippines is still grappling with how to successfully manage the problem of
unlawful cyber activity and cybercrime victimization, a concern that it shares with other
developing countries in Southeast Asia and elsewhere. While the government waits for
a comprehensive cybercrime law to be implemented, cybercriminals continue to exploit
technology to undertake illicit activity and avoid discovery. This rise in a criminal activity
needs a dedicated unit inside the PNP to pursue these criminals and strengthen the
PNP's cyber security posture. This study aimed to determine the roles of police in
cybercrime investigation. In addition, to help identify the impact on the police officer's
performance in terms of implementation, prevention, and capabilities on detecting and
apprehension. The researchers used the descriptive research design method to gather
data and interpret findings. For this study, a survey questionnaire was used to achieve
the study's main objective. The researchers utilized the said method since the
investigation required assigned Lucena PNP officials and residents as respondents
working in one of the administered City in Lucena, Quezon. The assigned Lucena PNP
officials, as the respondents of the examination.
