Police Visibility: Its Effect on the Health and Safety of the Citizens during Pandemic in Sariaya, Quezon
Abstract
The overall goal of this study was to identify the effects of police visibility
on the health and safety of the citizens during the pandemic in Sariaya, Quezon.
Descriptive quantitative method was used and data was primarily gathered via the
conduct of a survey among the respondents. It was revealed that the average
weighted mean for the effectiveness of police visibility in Sariaya, Quezon during
the pandemic is 3.25 described as very much effective. It may be surmised that
the respondents/citizens show a positive perspective on police visibility, especially
during this time of the pandemic. Also, it implies that the police visibility is very
much effective during the pandemic as per the responses of the citizens in terms
of having awareness of the police officers on their assigned tasks instead of during
the pandemic where their service and visibility are needed for the health and safety of the citizens. In terms of the ways or practices of police officers in maintaining
the health and safety of the citizens during the pandemic, it was revealed that the
average weighted mean for the ways or practices in maintaining the health and
safety of the citizens of Sariaya, Quezon during the pandemic is 4.59 described as
strongly agree. This means that PNP personnel of Sariaya, Quezon are fulfilling
their duties and responsibilities, as well as following the guidelines on health and
safety protocols of the pandemic. In addition, the results imply that most of the
given indicators were being practiced by the police officers in maintaining the
health and safety of the citizens in Sariaya, Quezon during the pandemic.
It was recommended that police officers in Sariaya, Quezon must maintain
their effectiveness in terms of police visibility amidst the pandemic, increase their
community involvement and informational brigades, and ensure expertise in
enforcing laws and restrictions during the pandemic, and strengthen the policecommunity relationships.
The findings of this review were found to have immediate implications for
policing during COVID-19 but also covered long-term effects, providing valuable
recommendations for after the crisis has passed.
