Area of Research
Abstract
In the year 2020, a virus called Corona Virus or most commonly known as COVID 19
spread all over the world, resulting in a global pandemic. As a solution to the pandemic,
the Philippine government raised a national emergency, which states that everyone
living in or out of the borders of the Philippines should follow protocols such as staying
at home or being in quarantine, in result most of the businesses and institutes need to
shut down immediately, only businesses that offer essential products are allowed to
operate. People are needed to stay in the house, and should also follow curfew.
Different aspects were affected by this pandemic, as well as the education of the
students. The Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education, resort to
a solution since this is a modern era, technologies are widely-spread and this can help
to reach out to the students even there is a pandemic. The educational institutes resort
to implementing Virtual Learning or most commonly known as Online Classes. The
regulation was implemented in the academic year 2020-2021. Many critiques raised their opinions about the regulation but it was still executed. Many educational institutes
did a lot of adjustments as well as the students.
In this study, the researchers determined the common problems that a
criminology student encountered during online classes. The researchers chose
criminology students from Manuel S. Enverga University randomly. The researchers
invited fifty (50) respondents for the study. This study aimed to know the common
problems and provide accurate solutions for raised problems in the study. The
researchers used quantitative research, for the study required communicative
information. They gathered data by distributing google form.
Results show that criminology students have difficulties adjusting to the new method of
learning through online platforms such as google classroom and zoom meetings. In
addition to this, the technical difficulties encountered by the students are also one of the
problems the students during online classes. The study also found that most
criminology students prefer to study with other students and under the supervision of
professors and instructors. In addition to this, the distractions at home such as
household chores, noisy backgrounds, and other responsibilities at home also hinder
the students to focus on learning.
