Problems Encountered by the PNP Personnel in the Operation on Illegal Cockfighting or Tupada during Pandemic
Area of Research
Abstract
Philippine National Police (PNP) enforce the law, prevent and control
crimes, maintain peace and order, and ensure public safety and internal security
with the active support of the community. They have a massive role in
preventing illegal doings and activities that are in the community. In this time of
the pandemic, front liners are among those chosen to protect the people from
the virus and, at the same time, work as a law enforcement body of our
government. This study aimed to determine the PNP's problems in the Illegal
Cockfighting operation during this pandemic. The researchers collected data
regarding the different factors and difficulties encountered in Tupada's illegality.
Results show that people are more likely to engage in illegal trades and bets
when no regulations exist. The overwhelming majority of people who took the
survey agreed that PNP must deal with the problem of illegal cockfighting.
Lawbreakers, on the other hand, must be apprehended more precisely. There
are also concerns about PNP bribery and the involvement of uniformed officers.
The PNP should toughen sanctions for repeat offenders to solve this societal
problem. They must be more proactive in light of the global pandemic and
safeguard PNP principles and ethics.
