A Progressive Web Application Development Using React JavaScript with Firebase: An Emergency Management System
Area of Research
Abstract
In this paper, an Emergency Management System was developed as innovative research to advance public services such as in rescuing or responding to emergencies, for real-time emergency alert/notification of Emergency Responders using a web application. The project used an agile methodology with secured coding guidelines such as the (OWASP) Open Web Application Security Project. This will easily and efficiently alert/notify Emergency Responders in the occurrence of an incident, fire, disaster, and calamities. Moreover, real-time reporting of an emergency by sending pictures and videos by the user and the ability to request emergency assistance from an ambulance, firefighters, emergency response team, or rescuers are crucial features for an Emergency Management System. This also ensured IT security such as validation of data, encryption, reCAPTCHA verified, One-time-Password, phone, and email authentication. The software was evaluated using ISO25010 and the respondents were pleased with its functionality, usability, and security, as evidenced by an overall weighted mean of 3.93.
