Effects of Positive Discipline to Teacher-Student Relationship in the New Normal Classroom

Abstract

Positive Discipline and teacher-student relationship are important as it has an impact on student’s achievement. It increased the engagement of the students inside the classroom, reduced misbehavior and established a positive relationship with the students helps them to feel comfortable and secure in the learning environment. Through the statements mentioned above, the researcher decided to make this study to point out the following; first, the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, civil status, and length of service (teacher-respondent). Second, the type of learners’ behavioral problems as experienced in the new normal classroom. Third, the perceived effects of positive discipline in the new normal classroom. And lastly, the strategies used to show positive discipline in the new normal classroom. Based on the findings derived from the gathered data the following conclusions are made: Most of the respondents answered, the “use of chat box without teacher’s permission “as one of the significant behavioral problems in the new normal classroom while “create positive relationship with the students, developed good human behavior, learned to value social and life skills for good character and encourage to do my best” were the perceived effects of positive discipline. Based on the mentioned conclusions above, applying positive discipline in the classroom will make the learners’ feel that they belong and safe in their learning environment which will develop their good human behavior. And learners must be consistent with their behavior inside the classroom and at home so that it cannot only made a good teacher-students relationship but also leads to a better child- parent relationship.
