Adaptability of Teachers and Parents to the Challenges in the Utilization of Self-Learning Modules

Abstract

This study aimed to determined the Adaptability of teachers and parents to the challenges in the utilization of self-learning modules. Because to know if the students are able to have quality education in a Modular Distance learning. Through the use of a mix method in the study which was a combination of quantitative and qualitative research to answer the sub problems of the study which was to identify the demographic profile of the respondent which are the 25 teachers and 30 parents in the Big Public Elementary School in Lucena East District, second to know the challenges encountered by the teachers and parents in the utilization of self-learning modules and also to determine the adaptability of teachers and parents to the challenges. The gathered data and information are from the surveyed questionnaire and interview that was done by the researcher. Based on the findings of this study, most of the challenges encountered by teachers and parents in the utilization of self-learning modules are printed in black and white, which causes confusion in doing and understanding the activities or lessons with visual aids. Also, unclear information, not enough explanation, and examples in lessons, also have errors, and lastly there are activities that are not applicable to distance learning due to lack of internet or gadgets that the students’ need to accomplish the task. However, teachers and parents have many ways to handle those challenges and be adaptable to the new normal setting of education. Likewise, the teachers’ perception in the interview is that they did an online kamustahan, sending video lessons, modified the errors and sent a correction, the modules have been proofreading by the teachers. On the other hand, the gathered information about parents’ perception is that they have been experiencing difficulty in handling those challenges. However, they said they did their best to teach, guide and support their child in the modular distance learning. The study recommended modifying the self-learning modules, and teachers should provide consistent consultation and assistance to the struggling parents and learners through any available network or device. Moreover, teachers should give parents a word of encouragement to help them to consistently support their child's education in the time of pandemic and distance learning. For the teacher they should give recognition for their hard work and sacrifices in modular distance learning and provide them with training that will improve their flexibility and adaptability in distance learning.
