The Use of Khan Academy as a Home-Based Learning Tool in Numbers and Number Sense of Grade 6 Pupils in Selected Elementary School of South District

Abstract

This study showed the use of Khan Academy as a home-based learning tool in numbers and number sense of grade 6 pupils in selected elementary school of South District. The main purpose of study is to find out how Khan Academy is use for grade 6 pupils in learning numbers and number sense at home. In terms of using Khan Academy at home, the researcher proposed an enhancement seminar for teachers, parents and students. This study used descriptive type of research it was considered relevant to the study because its objectives were to provide a systematic that was factual and accurate as possible. As quantitative, the researcher used statistical treatment to analyze and interpret the data. The researcher found out that majority of the respondents are female with a percentage of 60% and most of the respondents are using smart phone. Student usually used Wi-Fi 50% and cellular data 47% which is very convenient to use as device to view the lessons and practices. Based on respondents’ perception on the use of Khan Academy in terms of availability, ease of use, and usefulness got a weighted mean which is part as Strongly Agree and Agree. Respondents strongly agreed that Khan Academy motivate students in answering task it has a mean weight of 4.73. The researcher recommended that students should consistently use Khan Academy. The schools should have a one day webinar or seminar with the teachers and parents and teacher should encourage students to use the Khan Academy. Parents should help their children in using Khan Academy to support student understanding in numbers and number sense. The future researcher may elaborate this study to increase and develop better knowledge and awareness about the use of Khan Academy.
