A closer look at the factors predictive of student’s success in studying the nursing program: A structural equation modeling

Completed2019

Abstract

The study primarily aimed to identify the factors predictive of students’ success in studying the nursing program. The study established the interrelationship between demographic profiles and identified internal and external factors with the intent to finish the program. The study utilized descriptive evaluative, descriptive comparative, and descriptive correlational research design to examine the relationship between the variables. The data were gathered on selected nursing students in Quezon Province. Moreover, sets of survey questionnaires were used as instruments to obtain information from the respondents. Pearson r coefficient was used to analyze the significant correlation of the different variables. Stepwise Path Analysis Structural Equation Modeling with a standardized regression coefficient was used to identify a model and the impact of the factors on the students’ intent to finish the BSN program. Results show that most of the students took nursing for self- actualization. Both the internal factors and external factors greatly affect the intent to finish the program. While there are a significant correlation and direct relationship between demographic profile and external factors except for age and financing which has a significant correlation but with an inverse relationship. And with the use of SEM, it was revealed that the external factors especially the faculty has a very strong impact on the student's intent to finish the Nursing program. Data results hope to provide significance not just to the students studying in the nursing program but to the academic community offering a nursing program to establish better strategies for the future academic endeavor.
