Assessment of Financial Literacy of Selected Filipino Seafarers
Area of Research
Abstract
This descriptive study used a survey questionnaire to describe the financial literacy of selected Filipino seafarers. Data gathering was conducted in Quezon Province. A total of 40 Filipino seafarer-respondents answered the survey instrument. Results revealed that the Filipino seafarers surveyed were not financially literate and did not have knowledge in planning, budgeting and investing their earnings. They did not know how to plan for their future. Neither do they know how to invest their hard earned money so that it would earn and give them financial security when they are no longer able to sail.
