IMPLICATIONS OF CHED-MARINA PHASING-OUT LESS-PERFORMING MARITIME SCHOOLS

Abstract
This study focused on the awareness of the seafarers which will be used as the parameters in filling insufficiency of knowledge and experience of a seafarer aboard ship. It utilized the descriptive method of research using quantitative approach to ensure the reliability, fairness and quality of answers. The study was conducted in selected maritime schools in Quezon Province consisted of two school namely MSEUF College of Maritime Education as well as the Inter Global College. There were a total of 20 respondent seafarers who were part of the study. It also included professor seafarers who did perform on the said study. Frequency, weighted mean, ranking and
percentile were used in the statistical analysis. Analysis of the results revealed that most of the respondents strongly agreed to more scholarship grants to be offered to public maritime schools acknowledge by MARINA; they
were in the range of 36-40 years old, male and faculty. They have complication with their parents who refused to enroll their children who aspire to be seafarers simply because of the dilemma mostly in the negative effect of MARINA to the less performing maritime school. MARINA (Maritime Industry Authority) serves as a body to fulfill and assure the safety and quality of seafarers/manpower our country has been employing to supply the global scene. Every seafarer has to comply with requirements of MARINA in order for them to be employed in a manning agency.
