A Design of Mechanical Rice Transplanter
Area of Research
Abstract
The Philippines is an agricultural country, and rice is the staple food of the Filipinos. Approximately 25 percent of Filipino farmers rely for their livelihood on agriculture. The need for a rice transplanter machine is growing nowadays because it has unique features that minimize the working effort and the well-managed planting mechanism. Rice farmers from Brgy Mayao Castillo, who will be the beneficiaries of this research and development study, are the people who will use this type of machine. Farming requires hard physical work, and over time it takes a toll on the bodies of farmers. This can result in a loss of working time, which reduces individual income and farmers' profitability. Understanding the ergonomics of farm work can help prevent common injuries caused by farm work. A new design of rice transplanting is to solve the problems in terms of cost existing design, functionality, effectiveness, and fabrication in the market. With this design, one can plant the three rice seedlings (column) at an appropriate depth vertical to the ground. This not only stops the seedlings from being removed but also ensures uniform rice plants mature. The material that the researchers used has a small amount of mass as much as possible, for it will be used to a paddy rice field or mat type nurseries that can affect the force required to pull the rice transplanter with resulting in reduced labor, time to a large extent, and working output.
