Abstract

This research aimed to identify the factors affecting the performance of the maritime students in their flexible learning. Specifically, this determined the student's activities in flexible learning, explored the different factors affecting the performance of students in terms of their environment, financial, support system and their emotional status, and lastly, examined the relationship of the activities and factors that the students are experiencing while on the flexible learning. During this pandemic, the system of Philippine education changed from face-to-face or Physical learning into distance learning – also called flexible learning. It can be implemented in two ways, the modular, which refers to learning with printed materials provided by the institution, and the online, which refers to accessing the internet to retrieve or download the online resources that the institution requires the students to comply with to complete the semester. The mere fact that the Philippines still pushes education while still in the state of pandemic resulted in different challenges that the selective maritime student encountered namely, their studying environment, the financials, support system, and their emotional status. The activities encountered in terms of flexible learning of the Maritime Students’ response shows that the students agreed that activities were affecting their performance in flexible learning. This study helped to overcome the challenges of the selected maritime students in flexible learning through analyzing the impact of those challenges in students' psychological thinking, physical, and social aspects.
