Development of Android-based Alumni Tracking System for Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation

It is essential to maintain the information of the past and present students in the institutions, colleges and universities. However, the manual way of keeping this information doesn’t allow efficient data management and retrieval process. A student who wishes to get information about others has to approach the institution to obtain the said details. Often the information may not be available and misleading. This project aimed to improve the process of tracking alumni of the university. The proponents developed a system using Rapid Application Development Methodology, for this methodology allowed them to develop the system into smaller different parts. Thus, it results to a faster and more efficient development. The system was composed of a web-based and Android-based application which both works to improve the alumni tracking of the university. The web-based application allows the university staff to manage the accounts of the alumni while the Android application that comes with it, is the one that the alumni will use to connect with the university. This application lets the alumni to view the status of their co-alumnus and communicate with them, and view event announcements and photo gallery of the events that the university had conducted. The proponents used Phonegap, which is a free and open source framework for developing mobile apps without relying on platformspecific APIs like those in iOS and Android, to develop the Android application that the alumni will use. Based from the results of system testing and the answer of the respondents during the evaluation, this Alumni Tracking System for Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation was proven to be effective and efficient in tracking the alumni. for it lessens the amount of time and effort of the university staff in connecting with the alumni, as well as the alumni themselves, to improve the way they connect with their co alumnus and with the university.
