EFFECTIVENESS OF CURFEW AMONG JUVENILES IN BARANGAYS OF LUCENA CITY

Abstract

The main objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of the curfew among juveniles in barangays of Lucena City. The study assessed the reasons of implementing curfew among juveniles. This study looked on the wellbeing of the youth by keeping them off the streets during late night and wee hours in the morning, and drunkenness of the youth and the barangay officials’ functions to correct the disorderly conduct of the youths. Furthermore, the consideration of the welfare of the youths and prevention of juvenile delinquency were the focused of this study. This study used the descriptive method of research to gather responses from juveniles and barangay officials as respondents. Results show that there are advantages of implementing curfew among juveniles, curfews prevent young people from becoming victims of crimes, and teenagers feel safer when they have boundaries while for the barangay official respondents. Juvenile curfews hold teenagers accountable for their actions after dark and juvenile curfews help teens safety concern. Likewise, the juvenile curfews are highly effective in keeping youngsters feel secure and creating an atmosphere of peace and quiet in the neighborhood, while the barangay officials found curfew highly effective in keeping youngster out of harm and effective in keeping youngsters feel secure. There are also problems in implementing a curfew in barangays of Lucena City as for the juvenile respondents. The problems emerged are uncaring attitude of some parents, while for the barangay official respondents, these are the uncooperative behavior of parents in the implementation of curfew and the selective enforcement of curfew by some authorities. With these findings, a barangay juvenile matrix program plan for effective implementation curfew in the barangays was proposed and developed.
