PERCEIVED EFFECTS OF HERITAGE DESTINATION ON THE GROWING TOURISM INDUSTRY IN TAYABAS CITY

ABSTRACT This thesis entitled THE PERCEIVED EFFECTS OF HERITAGE DESTINATION IN THE GROWING TOURISM INDUSTRY IN TAYABAS QUEZON is a study on the current status of the growing tourism industry in Tayabas City and the effects of their heritage destination that would bring into light the solutions and suggestions needed to improve their growing local tourism. The ultimate aim of this study is the total improvement of Tayabas city‘s well-administered and supervised local tourism industry growth and development. Specifically, it seeks answers to the following questions: 1. Demographic profile of respondents 1.1 Gender 1.2 Age 1.3 Civil Status 1.4 Educational Attainment 1.5 Profession/Occupation 2. What are the heritage tourist destinations in Tayabas City? 3. What are the effects of the heritage tourist attractions in Tayabas City? As to response of: 3.1 Tourism Staff 3.2 Local Citizens 4. What action plan can be developed to enhance tourism industry in Tayabas City? In probable recommendations from: 4.1 Tourism Staff 4.2 Municipal Officials 4.3 Concern Citizens The researchers evaluated Tayabas Cityas an agent of heritage tourism in Quezon province; the researchers used the triangulation method type of research to gather the necessary data. Since the study is triangulation in nature, the researchers used the quantitative and qualitative type of research. Conclusions had been derived through a qualitative analysis of the responses gained through survey questionnaires that been administered and answered by selected residents of Tayabas, Quezon.. The data that we had been gathered coming from the survey questionnaires had been statistically treated. For the survey questionnaires intended to be answered by 100 residents from Tayabas, Quezon, ranking hadbeen used; however, the sections from this questionnaire had been computed also through getting its weighted mean. The frequency distribution and rank were taken considering the variables gender, age, civil status, educational attainment and occupation/profession. These were used in determining the common practices given by the respondents. Based on the foregoing findings, the following conclusions drawn: 1. The ages and positions of the respondents that are fully concerned and aware of what is the effect of heritage destination to their local community are negligible. Each and every one of them is obviously and really interested on the possible development of Tayabas City. 2. The heritage tourist destination in Tayabas City is well known by their popularity by the local community, from the well-known to the known. Their identifications shows that the City is rich when it comes to heritage attractions, thus the only problem is that it is not well promoted and advertised by the local tourism organization. 3. The outcome of the survey exposed that the heritage tourists attraction and heritage tourism has a lot of positive effects in Tayabas City in terms of local development, community development, local businesses development, development in terms of hospitality facilities and awareness of the people on their heritage. Majority of the local concern citizens agreed that heritage in Tayabas City is gradually helping them to develop their local tourism industry. 4. The proposed recommendations from the concern local citizens are all qualified to their viewpoint. Majority of them recommended doing a lot of changes in terms of the regulations and strategies in developing their City‘s tourism industry. They want to involve in all the projects or programs that will help to establish their City‘s name and expand their local tourism approach. In the light of the findings, conclusions and implications of the study the researchers recommends: 1. Regardless of their age, position and status all of the concerns citizens should be cooperative in terms of developing their local products and improving their City‘s reputation in the field of tourism industry. Positive changes and unique strategic developments should be considered on every target and objective they are planning to make. Step by step procedures and planning will be helpful. 2. Preserving and sustaining the natural appearance and structure of the heritage sites, and developing their tourism organization advocacy in order to attract tourists will be a big help for the City. The heritage attractions are situated already, the only concept that they need to execute is to let it be known and share them to those who are curious and inquisitive. 3. Many effects of heritage tourism in Tayabas City have been revealed to be progressively growing. Improvements and new strategies should be applied in launching effective action plans that may be used in order to make it rapid. Using adequate attention to the growing tourism industry and sufficient suggestions, actions and activities that may be done like launching a program that will help sustain the
