Completed2018

Abstract

Lifting equipment certification begun in the process of physical inspection of the equipment and verification of the declaration of conformity certificates. The lifting equipment should be examined in compliance with the set criteria of the equipment model and as per the recommended frequencies of inspection. The main objectives of this study is to determine the key issues on the equipment certification process as international Oil and Gas Company. Moreover, it aims to discuss the nature of lifting equipment certifications, describe and explain the hierarchy of the certification process of the lifting equipment certification and to determine the issues encountered in the certification process of the Oil and Gas Company. To pursue an accurate result of the study, the researcher reviewed the lifting equipment legislation and code of practice and analyze the existing certification process of Claxton Engineering. He had collected the data and the information by interviewing the Inspection Engineer and his co-worker in the company. It is then concluded that the effective and efficient lifting equipment certification process requires visual inspection, proof load test of the equipment and non- destructive test according to the inspection criteria of the lifting equipment. The research found that the manufacturers and the companies that has direct involvement in supplying and utilization of lifting equipment in their operation has the moral obligation to the safety of the operators by ensuring the equipment is always suitable and complies with the safety standards at all time. Each piece of equipment should be thoroughly examined and certified only by the competent and experience personnel.
