MSEUF hosts Jinju Presbytery Pastors, Wives choir for first Philippine concert

Strengthening international fellowship and cultural exchange through music and faith, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation hosted the Jinju Presbytery Pastors and Wives Choir of the Presbyterian Church in Korea for its first concert in the Philippines on Sept. 1 at the AEC Little Theater.
The concert formed part of the choir’s Philippine Praise Mission and brought together Korean and Filipino musical and cultural expressions. Founded in 1994, the choir is composed of pastors and their wives from the Jinju Presbytery and has shared its musical ministry through church and presbytery events and mission visits to Fukuoka, Japan, in 2014; Vladivostok, Russia, in 2015; and Jerusalem, Israel, in 2023.
The two-part program opened with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Seventh Mass,” followed by a Scripture reading and prayer in Korean led by Pastors Sundeuk Kim and Yungchul Kwon. Missionary Pastor Dongbaek Lee, who previously studied English at MSEUF and helped establish the University as one of the venues for the Philippine mission, provided the English translation.
After the intermission, the choir performed Ludwig van Beethoven’s “The Glory of God,” “The Savior’s Precious Blood” by J.H. Stockton and E.A. Hoffman, and “The Lord’s Prayer” by Albert Hay Malotte. The MSEUF Concert Singers and MSEUF Banyuhay Dance Troupe also performed, adding Filipino music and cultural expressions to the international program.
MSEUF recognized the visiting choir for its performance and ministry at the University. On behalf of President Naila Enverga-Leveriza and Chairman Wilfrido Lopez Enverga, Vice President for External Relations Celso Jaballa; Dr. Claudia Odette Ayala, acting vice president for academics and research and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Jennifer Reyes, head of Global Engagement and Linkages, presented the ensemble with a certificate of recognition.
Following its MSEUF performance, the choir was scheduled to continue its Philippine Praise Mission at the Lucena City Jail, Lucena Churches’ Night of Praise and Recto Memorial National High School in Tiaong, Quezon.
The concert provided an avenue for the MSEUF community and the Korean delegation to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding through music, worship and the arts while expanding the University’s international cultural engagement.
The activity supported the University’s vision of global competitiveness by creating opportunities for meaningful international and intercultural engagement. It also reflected the core values of Unity and Service by using music, faith and cultural exchange to build connections and strengthen relationships across communities.
