Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation
opened its National Heritage Month 2026 observance on May 4 with a flag-raising ceremony and program that gathered administrators, faculty, employees and students to promote cultural pride and national identity.

The activity launched the University’s month-long celebration anchored on the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future,” which includes heritage-themed flag ceremonies every Monday of May and encourages the academic community to wear Filipiniana attire.

The Human Resource Department led the initiative under its Director, Dr. Ma. Sylvia Avila, in coordination with the Office of the Vice President for Administration headed by Atty. Dario Opistan, as part of the University’s response to the nationwide observance encouraged by the Commission on Higher Education and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

VP Celso Jaballa, vice president for external relations, delivered the opening message and emphasized the importance of heritage in shaping identity and nationhood.

“Heritage is not merely remembered—it is lived through our traditions, language, service and shared responsibility,” VP Jaballa said.

VP Jaballa added that the observance calls on the academic community to actively participate in activities that preserve and promote Filipino culture.

VP Carlito Rodriguez, vice president for finance and treasurer, joined university officials during the ceremony, marking the formal start of the celebration.

The University lined up a series of activities throughout May, including academic contests, cultural performances, heritage exhibits, film appreciation, environmental initiatives and community outreach programs.

Organizers said these initiatives aim to deepen appreciation of Filipino identity and strengthen the role of education in cultural preservation.

The activity reflected the University’s core values of Mindfulness, Unity and Service by promoting cultural awareness and shared responsibility in preserving heritage. It also supported transformative learning by encouraging students and employees to actively engage in cultural appreciation and nation-building.
