Engr. Roselyn Maaño, director of the Research Publication, Incubation, and Utilization Center, and Assoc. Prof. Rodrigo Belleza Jr., dean of the College of Computing and Multimedia Studies, were among the selected participants for the AI for Good (Educator) Train-the-Trainer program organized by AI Singapore and Meta, Mar. 17 -21.
The program aimed to #PLUSskill 100 educators from ASEAN and empower them to conduct 40 AI classes for 5,000 students in their home communities.
Participants were chosen based on their commitment to AI education, ability to communicate in English, and passion for giving back to their communities. Each selected educator is expected to train at least 100 students within 12 months after completing the program.
Dean Belleza highlighted the significance of the training in advancing AI literacy.
“This program is not just about learning AI concepts—it’s about bringing them into our classrooms and ensuring that students and faculty understand how AI shapes our world. Our goal is to integrate AI education into our curriculum and prepare our learners for a technology-driven future,” he said.
The program covered fundamental AI topics, including AI applications, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and generative AI. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions, including mock class preparations, workshop execution planning, and discussions on responsible AI use.
Engr. Maaño emphasized the importance of responsible AI integration in education.
“AI is rapidly evolving, and educators must lead the way in using it ethically and effectively. This program provided us with tools and strategies to ensure AI is used responsibly in academic and research settings,” she said.
As part of their commitment, Maaño and Belleza will spearhead AI for Good workshops for MSEUF faculty and students, aligning with the university’s vision of fostering innovation and global competence.
