College of Education partners with New Horizons School-Vietnam
The Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) – College of Education (CED) headed by its dean, Dr. Divina J. Glifonea, partnered with New Horizons School in Vietnam.
The partnership aims to explore prospects of teaching abroad, highlighted in a recent seminar that provided insights on the complexities and opportunities of teaching in Vietnam, MSEUF Library Seminar Hall, June 14.
The seminar titled “Exploring Global Opportunities: Strategies for Future Educators,” provided participants with insight and practical strategies for navigating and excelling in the global educational landscape. Maria Julieza Oliveros Basaran and Khorkan Basaran from New Horizon School-Vietnam, served as the guest speakers.
Maria Oliveros Basaran, the academic manager, and Korcan Basaran, a Turkish national and educational expert, led the discussions. They highlighted the allure of international placements, citing lucrative salaries, lower living costs, and favorable work environments, as significant draws. However, they also emphasized the importance of gaining local teaching experience before pursuing international roles.
Czar Emmanuel Traquena, reflecting the sentiments of CED graduates in MSEUF’s teaching community, remarked, “My goal is to get started locally.”
This perspective underscored the College of Education’s commitment to preparing educators for global careers by equipping them with the necessary insights and strategies to navigate the evolving landscape of international education.
The seminar also featured Questions and Answers (Q&A) sessions and group discussions. Pre-service students and faculty members actively participated, sharing their aspirations and concerns about global educational careers. This format facilitated a rich exchange of ideas and fostered a deeper understanding of the complexities and rewards of teaching in an international context.
Maria Oliveros Basaran focused her discussion on “Global Competencies for Educators: Key Skills and Strategies.” She emphasized the importance of cultural intelligence, adaptability, and continuous professional development, providing concrete examples of how educators can integrate global perspectives into their teaching practices to enhance student outcomes.
Korcan Basaran’s presentation “Navigating International Educational Opportunities,” offered invaluable tips on seeking and securing global teaching positions. Drawing from his extensive international experience, he discussed the significance of networking, understanding diverse educational systems, and leveraging technology for global collaboration. His insights were particularly geared towards empowering future educators to seize international teaching opportunities.
The seminar also emphasized the necessity of 2-3 years of DepEd-accredited teaching experience and discussed challenges such as document authentication and language proficiency requirements like IELTS.
Dr. Glifonea in her closing remarks said that the seminar reinforced the College of Education’s dedication to preparing its students for the global stage, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in international education.
