A Design of Reinforced Concrete Lighthouse in Brgy. Punta, Padre Burgos Quezon

Completed2017

Abstract

Considering the generally firm condition of the site subsoil based on two (2) boreholes drilled on the project vicinity, it is evident that the utilization of shallow foundation is warranted. The computed allowable bearing capacity at recommended foundation level at 2.20 meters reckoned from the existing ground is as follows: (BH-1) 21,575 kg/m2 (216 kPa or @16 kN / sq.m.) and (BH-2) 21,458 kg/m2 (215 kPa or 215 kN / sq.m.) and it is rested on a firm Silty Sand. The subsurface soil are dry considering that the water level was not intersected during drilling operation, however, it will be considered that possible saturation on the foundation level shall occur, adopt the effective stress analysis. It is recommended that an integrated foundation system using spread footing with tie beams may be adopted to help resist differential settlement and lateral loads arising from earthquakes. For analysis of transient loading such as wind and earthquake, this may be increased about 20% of computed allowable bearing capacity, this is deemed adequate for medium rise structure. As in all engineering, strict adherence to the Structural and National Building Code of the Philippines, particularly on provision regarding to proper construction standard and workmanship is necessary. Should any changes in geologic condition be encountered during actual foundation excavation, the undersigned should be notified to provide the technical assistance and necessary adjustments. Further, this evaluation should be considered in the light of the present ground condition existing at the project area.
