A Design of Sanitary Landfill with Materials Recovery Facility for Patnanungan, Quezon

Abstract
RA 9003, Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. It is declared the policy of the State to adopt a systematic, comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program. This study considers the solid waste management system and sanitary infrastructures in Patnanungan, Quezon. The absence of sanitary landfill impacts the resident’s quality of life as open d0umps carries and brings diseases and harms the environment. The increasing population also intensifies the problem since the more the inhabitants, the more the solid waste they produce. As solid waste increases, the more the municipality needs a better facility for these wastes. The focus of this study is to design a Sanitary Landfill evaluated under legal, technical and economical point of view. The Sanitary Landfill is designed as combined area and trench method that will be used by the community for 10 years.
As part of the solid waste management system, a Materials Recovery Facility will also be considered and will follow technical requirements and existing laws and equations for civil engineering office. Patnanungan, Quezon's sanitary facilities are still not sufficiently developed due to the absence of sanitary landfill. With these, the researchers highly recommend the implementation of the designed sanitary landfill with materials recovery facility in
Patnanungan, Quezon.
