DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF CULTURE-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN EDUKASYON SA PAGPAPAKATAO GRADE EIGHT

Abstract
This study aimed to develop culture-based instructional materials that utilized
local cultural icons. The instructional materials considered the learning competencies for
the new enhanced basic education curriculum (K to 12) for grade eight.
The study used local cultural icons which were identified and the Perigrino
template was used to form the sequence of the instructional materials based on the
existing Philippine Secondary School Learning Competencies.
The preparation of the budget of work was done and subsequently the instructional
materials utilizing and integrating the identified icons were prepared. The instructional
materials covered four modules for one grading period since Edukasyon sa pagpapakatao
time allotment was just 120 minutes per week. Feedback gathering and analysis of data
were done thru the validation instruments. Modification and finalization of the
instructional materials were done after the validation made by the Edukasyon sa
Pagpapakatao grade eight subject teachers and subject area coordinators as well as the
grade eight learners who used and who were the subject of the try out of the instructional
materials.
