ACCEPTABILITY OF MODULES FOR INSTRUCTION IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADE 7 OF THE OPEN HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM IN SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF THE SECOND DISTRICT OF QUEZON
Area of Research
Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the acceptability of modular instructional
materials in Physical Education Grade 7 of the Open High School Program in
selected secondary schools of the Second District of Quezon.
Utilizing the descriptive method of research, ten (10) Grade 7 teachers and
one hundred fifty (150) Grade 7 students served as respondents. The study was
conducted during the SY 2013-2014.
Findings of the study revealed that the modular instruction is acceptable to
teachers and students of grade 7 as it helped them to attain the instructional
objectives for the learning area. The modules have acceptable learning content,
learning activities, and learning assessment which help in facilitating teaching and
learning experiences of the students in the Open High School Program.
The grade 7 PE teachers are often using varied strategies which allow the
students to discover and learn physical education in different ways. With the use of
the modules, teaching of PE has became more student-centered rather than
teacher-centered. As part of the K to 12 curriculum, it allows independent learning
on the part of the students.
When the impact of the instructional modules was assessed, it was found out
that it contributes in enhancing the learning experiences of the students to a
moderate extent. It was surmised that the instructional module has exposed the
students to real-life learning, discovery learning, and teacher-guided activities to
make the whole learning experiences worthwhile. Meanwhile, problems encountered in the use of the instructional modules are
usually slightly serious. Drawbacks on the use of the modular instruction are usually
manageable and require creativity on the part of the teachers.
It could be concluded that using modular instruction in teaching students of
grade 7 in the OHSP yields positive acceptance and impact to the learners and
learning process. It has gained wide acceptance not only among teachers but
students as well. Using the module would allow the students to taste a variety of
teaching strategies and experience things to have more concrete learning.
