Completed2014

Abstract

The study assessed the establishment of Special Program in Sports in the Second Congressional District of Quezon Province using 389 student-athletes, 74 MAPEH teachers, and 15 school administrators as respondents. The descriptive survey method was utilized in this study. A self-devised questionnaire was used in gathering data on the profile of public high schools, MAPEH teachers, and student-athletes; factors affecting the establishment of special program in sports among the public high schools; level of agreement among the responses of principals, teachers, and students on the factors affecting the establishment of special program in sports and the viability of establishing special program in sports among the participating public secondary high schools. Results revealed that majority of the public secondary schools in the Second Congressional District of Quezon Province met the four (4) major divisions in the guidelines of establishing special program in sports including curriculum design, students, program management, and administrative matters. There were enough numbers of qualified MAPEH teachers for the SPS. Of the 15 public schools, 13 have a record of winning in the last two years in different sport events. Also, the schools have their own courts (basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, sepak takraw) and track and field oval within the locality where student-athletes can hold their practice. There is also a provision for some medical and sports equipment. Hence, it could be deduced that Special Program in Sports is viable in some of the schools so a proposed class schedule and program was developed for review and enhancement.
