Completed2014

Abstract

The study identified and assessed the coaching style employed by 100 Physical Education teacher-coaches from the second congressional district of Quezon province among their studentathletes. The descriptive survey method was utilized in this study. A modified survey questionnaire was used in gathering data regarding the demographic profile of the respondents. The survey questionnaire identified the coaching styles used by the respondents, assessed the level of effectiveness of their coaching style and recognized the common problems encountered by the respondents. The study revealed that majority of the respondents were male, married, early adults, obtained a baccalaureate degrees, were secondary school teachers and served less than 10 years. In terms of field of specialization in sports, the PE teacher-coach respondents were distributed in different fields of which team sports has the highest while dance sports has the least number of teacher-coaches. Majority of the PE teacher-coaches do not have training for coaching and officiating whether it is on the national or local level. It appears that autocratic style (do as I say) is the most commonly used and adopted coaching style by physical education or PE teacher-coaches in Units II A and B of Quezon Province. The study established significant relationship between the variables age, educational attainment, professional status and length of service in relation to the level of effectiveness of the PE teacher-coaches.
