LEARNING ENGAGEMENT OF KINDERGARTEN PUPILS AS PERCEIVED BY KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS IN THE DIVISION OF LUCENA CITY
Abstract
The study centered on the perception of the teachers in the engagement
of the kindergarten pupils in language, literacy and communication; mathematics
and understanding physical and environmental science. This study also explored
on the level of motivation and progress of kindergarten pupils in content areas.
The study employed the descriptive method of research and examined the
phenomenon, that is, the engagement of kindergarten pupils as it exists at the
time of the study. The respondents of the study were kindergarten teachers in the
Division of Lucena City. It utilized questionnaire as the main data gathering
instrument. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution and weighted
means were used to measure and analyze the results of the study. The result
shows that the engagement of kindergarten pupils in language, literacy, and
communication, mathematics, and understanding physical and natural
environment is at the high level. In addition, the level of motivation of
kindergarten pupils in the content area is high, as well as the level of progress of kindergarten pupils in the content area. Meanwhile, the large class sizes are the
most commonly encountered problem in the public school. Using the findings of
the study, the researcher developed a learning module which focuses on group
activities to address large class size with appropriate and learner-centered
activities
