CAREER PATHWAYS OF SELECTED GRADE 7 STUDENTS: BASIS FOR A CAREER DEVELOPMENT TOOL

Abstract
This study dealt with the pathways of grade 7 students as to the profession and
work they will undertake after their secondary education. The study is a descriptive
quantitative type of research which involved the grade 7 students of Quezon National
High School.
Results showed that most of the respondents’ course preference is HRM and
majority agreed that parents had the greatest influence on their career decision making.
With regard to their self-concept, majority had a positive attitude towards themselves. In
terms of career exploration, they strongly agreed a college education is important to
them in achieving their goals, while in terms of career planning them strongly agreed
that the course they are currently pursuing is helpful in making a career and that they
want to have their own career choice. They also agreed that environmental and reality
factors have influences on their career decision making. Educational factor also has the
greatest influence in their career decision making. Their Occupational Interest Inventory
(HSOII) ranked esthetic first followed by agriculture, professional, personal, mechanical,
commercial, and scientific. It is recommended that the career development module be
used to enlighten students on the career or profession that they should take or pursue.
