Area of Research
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of performance of pupils in early
childhood education in Polillo District based on the perception of teachers and parents in
terms of Character/values Development, Physical Health, Socio-Emotional Development,
Social Development, Language, Literacy and Communication, Mathematics, and
Understanding of the Physical and Natural Environment. It also sought to know the problems
encountered by teachers relative to early childhood education. Using descriptive research, 20
kindergarten teachers and 241 parents from Polillo District were asked to answer the survey
questionnaire. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, ranking, and chi-square statistics were
used in the analysis of data.
As revealed in the findings, majority of the respondents were female. Most of them
were in the age bracket of 20-30. Majority of the teacher-respondents were bachelor’s degree
holder while most parents were high school graduate. Their responses revealed that the pupils
achieved all the skills they needed to learn in the developmental domain. There was no
significant difference in their perceptions on the pupils’ character/values, socio-emotional,
mathematics, and understanding of the physical and natural environment, while their
responses varied in all the other domains. Teachers are advised to pursue their master’s
degree for their professional growth as a teacher. Continuous improvement plan is also recommended as the result revealed that pupils in early childhood education performed very
satisfactorily in all the developmental domains. With regard to the problems encountered by
the teachers, an intervention plan is highly recommended. Regular PTA meeting to address
the problems of the pupils with regard to bullying should also be conducted.
