ADVERSITY QUOTIENT (AQ) AND LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES OF THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS IN SCHOOLS DIVISION OF LUCENA CITY: BASIS FOR A MANAGEMENT OF LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES PROGRAM

Abstract

The study explored the adversity quotient and leadership competencies of the school administrators in the Division of Lucena City. It aimed to analyze the adversity quotient of the elementary and secondary school administrators, to investigate their leadership competencies and tried to gauge whether there were significant differences in the stated aspects. The respondents were the elementary and high school administrators in the Division of Lucena City. It employed a mixed-method of research; the quantitative design made use of descriptive –evaluative method of research which examines the phenomena as they exist and the evaluative design to investigate the current situation of the study. The qualitative part made use of the Focus Group Discussion interview. Audio taping inclusive of coding and transcriptions were used for the data. The questionnaire was the main tool of the study. Statistical tool such as the weighted mean and Analysis of Variance (ANONA) were used to gauge the significant difference in the adversity quotient and leadership competencies of the school administrators. The study revealed that the school administrators of the Division of Lucena City had high level of Adversity Quotient (AQ) along control, endurance reach and ownership. It was also revealed that the School Administrators of the Division of Lucena had high extent level of leadership competencies specifically on school advocacy, professionalism, and communication. There was no significant difference on the Leadership Competencies between Elementary and Secondary Administrators in the Division of Lucena City. With the results gathered, the researcher recommends that all school administrators be in the graduate program for their professional development and enhancement of leadership and that the DepEd Lucena City closely in its monitoring and supervision of schools to evaluate so well the adversity quotient and leadership competencies of these administrators.
