A STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BARANGAY POLICE PATROL AS A TOOL IN CRIME PRVENTION IN SELECTED BARANGAYS OF TAYABAS CITY

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Barangay police patrol as a tool of crime prevention. The data gathering was conducted in selected Barangay of Tayabas City. A total of 100 respondents answered the questionnaire composed of 100 citizens. Result of the study revealed that the barangay police patrol promote peace and order effectively, they cooperate between citizens and barangay police, they respond punctually to all assignments and in the citizens’ request, they maintain and check the security of the community, they being alert in any condition, record their activities and they identify the criminal activities and offenders. However, they encountered problems related to inadequacy such as, some of patrol team is not knowledgeable how to conduct patrol properly, they are not aware of the different programs about the crime prevention, inadequate support of vehicles, lack of personnel assigned in patrol operation, lack of sympathy from the members of community. The barangay police conducting patrol in limited time and they encountered problem in terms of responses in time of emergency. In this matter, it is recommended that they should maintain their duties and responsibilities, they should allocate funds and they should continue to grow their knowledge, skills and ability. They also undergo to seminar conducted by the government and non-government agency.
