Abstract

The study aimed to assess the perceived effects of cooperative learning on the development of need for cognition among intermediate pupils in Polillo District. It was determined through the response of intermediate teachers on the use of cooperative learning in the development of need for cognition. Specifically, the study aimed to describe the intermediate teachers of Polillo District in terms of age, gender, length of service, and educational attainment.The researcher explored whether cooperative learning strategies used by intermediate teachers influenced the development of need for cognition among intermediate pupils in terms of knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. It is hoped that the outcome of the study contributed to enhancing the cognition of the pupils using cooperative learning. Specifically, this study is looking forward to benefiting the pupils, teachers and school administrator.The researcher used a descriptive survey questionnaire for data gathering.The respondents of this study are 84 intermediate teachers of Polillo District. The result of the study revealed that cooperative learning strategies could help to develop the need for the cognition of the intermediate pupils of Polillo District. Cooperative learning promotes independence on the part of the pupils and boosted their self-esteem.The teachers perceived that the development of need for cognition among the pupils determined by the levels of cognition was enhanced through the use of different cooperative learning strategies.
