IMPACT OF GENDER ON LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS OF PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HEADS IN CLUSTER IV OF THE DIVISION OF QUEZON

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the impact of gender on the leadership of public elementary school heads in terms of management of school discipline, school personnel, and financial resources. It also determined the gender-related variables that impact leadership effectiveness as well as the dominant leadership style of public elementary school heads based on gender. Likewise, it determined the relationship of gender to leadership effectiveness in terms of management of school discipline, management of school personnel and management of financial resources. It made use of a descriptive correlational method of research with the survey questionnaire as the data gathering instrument. All public elementary school heads consisting of sixty-one (61) and two hundred eighty-five (285) teachers from Cluster IV of the Division of Quezon were the respondents. The statistical measures employed were mean frequency percentage and correlation coefficient. Respondents' demographic profile was also determined. Majority of the school heads were female as well as the teachers with female school heads. Fifty-two (52) percent of the school heads were Master's Degree holder while there is one (1) who is graduate of Doctoral Degree. There was a majority of school heads who belong to the administrative experience of 1 to 5 years. School heads leadership effectiveness in terms of management of school discipline is highly effective. In the management of school personnel, they have rated also highly effective as well as in the management of financial resources. In terms of gender-related variables affecting leadership effectiveness, it revealed that school heads strongly agreed to these variables like assertiveness, thoroughness, friendliness and toughness and courage. The most dominant leadership style of male school heads was that they inspire teachers to work harder and strive for the highest level of performance. Female school heads also revealed the same leadership style. They were both practicing Transformational Leadership Style. Gender has significant relativity to leadership effectiveness of school head in terms of management of school discipline according to teacher respondents.
